Eczema is a name used to describe a group of conditions where the skin becomes red, itchy and inflamed.

Eczema comes in many forms and can affect any age group, including children. In New Zealand, up to 1 in 3 babies have eczema by 12 months of age. Most will eventually grow out of it by adulthood.

The aim of treating eczema is to:

  • relieve the itch
  • treat the inflammation
  • control flare ups (if eczema is severe)

Advantan® soothes the itching and inflammation caused by eczema in as little as one day.

Better yet, Advantan is gentle enough to use on the most delicate skin, and is recommended for babies as young as 4 months old.

There is no cure for eczema, but there are ways of controlling the symptoms.

Relieving the itch is the first step. Other easy steps for good eczema management include:

  • Avoid triggers

ADVANTAN

Relief from itching in as little as one day

We know parents often worry about medications they put on their baby's skin. So it's good to know that Advantan not only works fast, it also has an excellent safety profile, and has been clinically proven safe to use on children and babies as young as 4 months.

Advantan belongs to a class of medicines called 'topical corticosteroids'. Topical corticosteroids are widely used and effective anti-inflammatory preparations used to control eczema, dermatitis and many other skin conditions.

What sets Advantan apart is its unique formulation. Designed to be rapidly absorbed when applied to the skin, Advantan is activated faster in damaged and inflamed skin than normal skin - meaning it's effect is focused to the eczema affected area.

Once absorbed into the affected area, the active ingredient is quickly inactivated, reducing the potential for side effects.

Even better, Advantan is convenient – it only needs to be applied once a day.

Advantan can be used on the face, and is suitable for treating moderate to severe eczema in adults, children and babies as young as 4 months old.

It's important not to scratch!

Scratching eczema-affected skin can bring temporary relief, but it also triggers the release of a chemical called histamine which goes on to cause more itching… hence the term ‘itch-scratch cycle’.

Scratching damages the skin, causing oozing and bleeding, which may lead to infection, and a thickening of the skin over time.

Using an appropriate treatment to stop the itching can help break the Itch-scratch cycle of eczema.
